Raikes would also like to see more donors focus on root causes for human suffering. The intention is to find ways to transform systems that cause harm, rather than just help individuals after systems have failed them. Researching the larger system that allows this problem to exist in order to define a strategy that can achieve measurable results. Raikes believes it’s important to listen closely to those most proximate to the problem and to understand the full context of who is most affected, who has power, and who does not.
