IMD provides updates on Cyclone Fenglin, its landfall near Puducherry, and the subsequent heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone is expected to weaken over the next few days.
IMD , IMD -Regional Meteorological Centre Deputy Director S Balachandran provided important updates on Cyclone Fenglin . He mentioned that the cyclone made landfall between 6:30 and 7:00 PM on Saturday near Puducherry and completed the process between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM, and is now steady. It is expected to move slowly westwards, weaken slightly and put the north-coast of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry under pressure.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall has started in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka and southern Andhra Pradesh due to the cyclone. In Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, 50 cm of rainfall was recorded between 8:30 AM on November 30 and 5:30 AM on Sunday in Malam. In Puducherry, 46 cm of rainfall was recorded. This is the heaviest rainfall in Puducherry. Chennai Airport operations were resumed after a halt on Sunday night. In Andhra Pradesh, Nellore, Chittoor, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati have been adversely affected with heavy rainfall. In Karnataka, rainfall has been reported in 16 districts including Udupi, Chikkamaglur, Chitradurga. There is a possibility of power cuts between December 1 and 3 in these districts
