Don't drink and shop
Amazon AMZN, +0.20% is the No. 1 site people go to shop after imbibing, a new survey by tech and business newsletter The Hustle found.
Amazon did not respond immediately to a request for comment, and neither did any of the other online retailers named in the survey. Apparently drunk shopping reaches its peak after dinner time: Other research on the trend found that shopping while intoxicated is more common after 9 p.m. Retailers capitalize on that by advertising more sales when shoppers are likely to have had a few drinks.
Amazon is expected to account for 47.0% of the e-commerce market in the U.S. by the end of 2019, up from 44.8% in 2018, according to eMarketer. The Jeff Bezos-backed e-commerce giant has lured in consumers with its Prime subscription membership which costs $12.99 a month or $119 a year and offers free two-day shipping; free two-hour delivery service in some areas; access to Prime Video and Prime Music; and discounts at Whole Foods AMZN, +0.20% It had 101 million members as of January.
