American Airlines is extending flight cancellations into early June as Boeing's 737 Max aircraft remain grounded.
A total of 346 were killed in the Oct. 29 crash of Lion Air Flight 610 and the March 10 crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, both of which involved Boeing's new 737 Max 8 jet. According to the preliminary report, data from the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder indicates that one of the plane's angle-of-attack sensors began fluctuating shortly after takeoff and sent"erroneous" information. This activated a new anti-stall safety system on the Boeing 737 Max 8 that controls trim, known as MCAS, which is believed to have pushed the nose of the aircraft down.
