American Airlines [s:aal] said Sunday it was extending the grounding of its Boeing 737-Max aircraft through at least June 5, resulting in the cancellation of about 90 flights per day throughout the carrier's system. "American continues to await information from the Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Transportation, National Transportation Safety Board other regulatory authorities and Boeing that would permit the 24 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in our fleet to resume flying," the airline said in a posting to customers on its booking site. American said reservation personnel would be contacting affected customers to assist them in rebooking flights. Boeing's [s:ba] 737 Max has been grounded worldwide following crashes of Lion Air and Ecuadorian Airlines planes that investigators believe were both caused in part by the failure of a flight-control software system.
