Hundreds of animal-rights activists and fur-industry supporters squared off Wednesday at an hourslong New York City Council hearing on a bill that would ban nearly all sales of fur in the city.
The measure would outlaw the sale of new furs, but allow for exemptions for religious clothing made from fur, and on used or repurposed fur. It wouldn’t prohibit wearing fur or fur-trimmed products in the city.
