In this Wednesday, April 17, 2019, file photo, Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo shows his ballot before voting at a polling station in Jakarta, Indonesia. Tens of millions of Indonesians were voting in presidential and legislative elections Wednesday after a campaign that pitted the moderate incumbent against an ultranationalist former general whose fear-based rhetoric warned the country would fall apart without his strongman leadership.

Voters in Indonesia, the world’s third-largest democracy, voted in presidential and legislative elections. The key race pitted incumbent President Joko Widodo against nationalist former general Prabowo Subianto. A so-called quick count of ballots indicated the president was on his way to a second term, though official results must still confirm that.
