However, representatives of both parts of the governing coalition, the centre-right People's Party and the far-right Freedom Party , have made it clear that the law is targeted at the headscarf worn by Muslim women. An independent member of Austria’s parliament wore a headscarf during her general assembly speech to protest the banning of the religious head covering in primary schools.In the last decade, racism and Islamophobia have increased because of the FPOe, Bissman said.
