WASHINGTON—Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on Wednesday defended the Trump administration’s proposal to eliminate federal funding for the Special Olympics in the face of opposition to the idea.
Mrs. DeVos, who testified on the administration’s budget request for the Education Department before a House subcommittee on Tuesday, said the proposal to cut $17.6 million for the Special Olympics represented one of the “difficult decisions” made to reduce the federal footprint of her agency.
