CNN senior political analyst Ron Brownstein this weekend reiterated his prediction that impeaching President Donald Trump will not hurt Democrats in 2020.article titled"Democrats Learned the Wrong Lesson From Clinton's Impeachment" with weekend anchor Ana Cabrera.
Brownstein responded by noting that in"January 2001 Republicans controlled the White House, the House and initially, the Senate," just two years after the GOP-led House moved to impeach Clinton"against the opposition of the majority of the country." "Republicans lost five seats. They won the national popular vote, they won the vote among independents. There were 91 Republicans at that point in districts that had voted for Bill Clinton two years earlier. Four of them lost their seats, that's it," he explained.
While Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has indicated she is opposed to launching impeachment proceedings, 58 House Democrats have publicly supported launching an impeachment inquiry against Trump, according to
