Dan Harris exits as ‘Nightline’ co-anchor to devote more time to his growing 10% Happier business
after nearly six years, the network said Tuesday. He will continue to report stories for the late-night newsmagazine as well as for other ABC News outlets, and will continue co-anchoring the weekend edition of Good Morning America.
At the same time, it’s been incredibly exciting to witness how Dan’s thriving 10% Happier franchise has grown from a best-selling book to an award-winning podcast, highly-rated app and second best-selling book, drawing millions of fans. It’s a testament to his hard work and a reflection of how vital meditation and mindfulness have become in our modern culture. I can’t wait to see where it goes next.
Please join me in thanking Dan for his tremendous work as anchor at Nightline. Below you can read a personal note from him.The irony is not lost on me. In my book, 10% Happier, I wrote at length about how I fought and pleaded to anchor Nightline. But it is the success of that book — and its spawn: a podcast and a tech startup — that are the reason I now have to step away.
I am not going away. I don’t know where my office will be, but it won’t be far. More importantly, I will continue working on big, investigative stories. The reports I have been able to file for this show — from the Congo, Haiti, El Salvador, Brazil, Mexico, even Papua New Guinea — have been some of the most meaningful work of my life.
