The Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Wednesday said he will go forward with a vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for not complying with a subpoena to turn over the full Mueller report.
The Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Wednesday said he will go forward with a vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for not complying with a subpoena to turn over the full Mueller report despite a last-minute threat from the Justice Department that if it happens, it will ask Presdient Donald Trump to invoke executive privilege over the disputed material.
The Justice Department warned Tuesday night that Barr would ask Trump to invoke executive privilege over the full Mueller report if Democrats moved forward with contempt proceedings. “Worse, this kind of obstruction is dangerous. The Department’s decision reflects President Trump’s blanket defiance of Congress’s constitutionally mandated duties," Nadler said.
The Justice Department has pushed back on Democrats' demands and instead offered to make an unredacted version of the Mueller report available to a small group of congressional leaders for review at a Justice Department facility.
