Higher SES students were five times more likely to enroll in a highly selective institution than students in the lowest SES quintile . Between 2012 and 2018, the 46 flagship universities surveyed by Bloomberg Government increased their merit, or non-need-based, financial aid by 65% compared to a 53% increase for their need-based aid.
