The Tesla CEO said that other vehicles will soon be so far behind Teslas in self-driving technology, owning another car will be like owning a horse.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said his company's self-driving-car tech gives its vehicles and their owners a huge advantage over the automakers' rivals.
"The fundamental message that consumers should be taking today, it is financially insane to buy anything other than a Tesla. It will be like owning a horse in three years. I mean, fine if you want to own a horse. But you should go into it with that expectation," the Tesla CEO said on Monday. "If you buy a car that does not have the hardware for full self-driving, it is like buying a horse. Musk has received some criticism from scholars and industry experts who take exception to Musk's use of the phrase"full self-driving" when describing the technology Tesla is selling.
