The House will vote Thursday on a resolution condemning anti-Semitism, an indirect rebuke of controversial comments by Rep. Ilhan Omar that has inflamedHouse Majority Leader Steny Hoyer made the announcement in a closed-door meeting Thursday morning.“I think we will,” Hoyer confirmed to reporters after the meeting when asked about vote timing.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel confirmed that text of the resolution would come out within an hour. Multiple members suggested it would be the broader resolution condemning hate speech but language is still being worked out. The controversy surrounding Omar — in which she said pro-Israel advocates have “allegiance” to a foreign country — has exposed sharp divides within the Democratic caucus along generational and ideological lines.
