Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel slammed prosecutors' decision to drop charges against 'Empire' actor Jussie Smollett, calling it an 'insult' to those who uphold the law.
"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett thanks supporters after all criminal charges are dropped. The mayor and police chief blasted the decision and stood by the investigation that concluded Smollett staged a hoax.
“I’ve been truthful and consistent on every single level since Day 1. I would not be my mother’s son if I was capable of one drop of what I’ve been accused of,” he said. "Where is the accountability of the system? You cannot have, because of a person's position, one set of rules apply to them and another set of rules apply to everybody else," Emanuel said in a separate press conference.Jussie Smollett smiles and waves to supporters before leaving Cook County Court after his charges were dropped Tuesday.
