A long-term study show benefits of pre-K can carry across a generation
Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has championed free prekindergarten in New York City, has cited Nobel laureate James Heckman’s research on the benefits of preschool for low-income children.
Now Mr. Heckman has an update: In new data released Tuesday, he found the positive effects stretched to the children of disadvantaged students enrolled in a much-studied preschool program more than 50 years ago. Mr. Heckman called it evidence that early childhood education can help break the cycle of poverty.
