U.S. measles cases have surged again, and are on pace to set a record for the most illnesses in 25 years.

“This is the second-greatest number of cases reported in the U.S. since measles was eliminated in 2000,” according to the outbreak update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.begins with a cough, runny nose, watery eyes and a high fever. Over the next three to five days, those cold-like symptoms are followed by a rash that spreads from the face to the torso and limbs. Patients may also develop small white spots in their mouth, diarrhea and ear infections., the CDC says.

The 2019 tally is already the highest since 2014, when 667 were reported.
