Email Bio Follow March 22 at 8:22 AM SEOUL — North Korea on Friday abruptly pulled out from a liaison office with South Korea near the border, following the no-deal summit between leader Kim Jong Un and President Trump last month.
Moon’s top national security adviser convened an emergency meeting to discuss the surprise move from North Korea. Rapprochement with the North has been a centerpiece of Moon’s presidency and it has been in tatters since the dramatic summit breakdown in Hanoi. The proposal ultimately did not go through following the collapse of negotiations over differences about definition of denuclearization of North Korea, and the extent of sanctions relief in return. Trump and his aides have taken a hard line position that the United States will not prematurely lift sanctions until North Korea gives up all of its nuclear weapons.
