On Wednesday, OneWeb plans to launch the first six satellites from a remote launch site in French Guiana, a key step toward building out a constellation that could eventually reach nearly 2,000 satellites.

Greg Wyler, founder of OneWeb, discusses the company's upcoming launch of satellites. OneWeb, based in Tysons, Va., wants to launch a constellation of satellites to beam the Internet to remote parts of the world, connecting 4 billion people who don't have broadband access.

“However, the underlying business case for OneWeb is still highly uncertain, and I’ve not yet seen a persuasive plan that fully closes.” The key question, she said: “Can they deliver a product that competes and wins?” OneWeb's satellite operations center is located in Tysons, Va. Even if OneWeb can meet the technical challenges, get the regulatory approvals and break into the market, or expand it, there are others gunning to do the same thing. Namely, Elon Musk.
