You know you are at an Italian university when your language professor wears a different natty scarf each day, tied to elegant perfection.
You also know you are at an Italian university when almost every professor mentions at some point, and usually with resentment, that money from the Marshall Plan was used to support Italy’s center-right Christian Democratic Party in the postwar era, keeping them in power for decades and preventing Italians from electing a leftist government.
