Much of the national-security commentariat is appalled by President Trump’s decision to intercede in the clearance process for Jared Kushner, who is Mr. Trump’s son-in-law. Without the president’s intervention, Mr.
Kushner and probably his wife, Ivanka Trump, wouldn’t have received top-secret clearances, which are required for senior positions in the White House. Recent reports suggest that Mr. Trump lied about his involvement in the matter, indicating he might have known his intercession was unseemly.
