Russia firms up support for Maduro’s crisis-hit government in Venezuela while the U.S. announced a new round of sanctions
MOSCOW—Russia pledged much-needed international support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s embattled government Friday while the U.S. announced a new round of sanctions against government officials, as a bitter standoff over the South American country’s future intensifies.
Moscow’s assurances help Mr. Maduro when momentum behind Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó, who is abroad also seeking support, appears to have slowed.
