Pickup trucks are getting safer—year by year and model by model—due to heightened attention by engineers that once was devoted mostly to passenger cars

Ford was quick to boast of its engineering prowess on Thursday, as well as the strength of F150’s aluminum components. GM has mocked Ford in advertisements for using aluminum extensively in pickup construction to reduce weight and thereby improve fuel efficiency.
