Riffing on a building’s past lives as both an anti-animal-cruelty nonprofit and a guitar shop, Public Records is an all-day vegan cafe and experimental music outfit that brings high-fidelity sound credentials to Brooklyn’s Gowanus“This building has music in its blood,” says Shane Davis, surveying the site in Gowanus, Brooklyn that will soon
be known as Public Records, an all-day music venue featuring a vegan cafe, hi-fi listening lounge, and “sound room”—a 200-person capacity vinyl-leaning club and live-music space. “When we found it two years ago, there was a church organ restoration shop on the ground floor and a vintage guitar shop upstairs. It felt like it was meant to be.”
