The Green Bay Packers drafted five defensive players and three on offense this weekend.
Green Bay Packers' first round draft pick Rashan Gary is seen as a"boom or bust" pick by many NFL scouts. When Gutekunst was named Green Bay’s general manager in Jan., 2018, he was given a paper thin roster littered with holes. When Aaron Rodgers struggled through a rough 2018 season, the Packers predictably finished 6-9-1 and missed the playoffs for a second straight year.
“He’s obviously a premier athlete,” Gutekunst said of Savage. “He’s been an impact player for Maryland for a number of years. Certainly his football character was something that really attracted to us. But he’s able to close the gap from centerfield to the hash. Really aggressive, physical player, able to take the ball away. And he really fit what we’re trying to do there in the back end.
“The kid, when you watch him, he's got everything in his body,” Packers southwest scout Charles Walls said. “If he wants to be dominant, if he wants to control guys, he can do it and he does it on a consistent basis. He's powerful. We think he can control the line of scrimmage.”Green Bay selected consecutive Texas A&M players when it took tight end Jace Sternberger in Round 3 and defensive end Kingsley Keke in Round 5. Both could prove to be steals.
Keke dropped 30 pounds before his senior season, moved from tackle to end and took his sack total from 1.0 to 7.0. In three seasons at Michigan, though, Gary finished posted 119 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, one forced fumble and no fumble recoveries. In recent years, the Packers have found standouts such as offensive linemen David Bakhtiari, T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton and defensive lineman Mike Daniels in the fourth round.pick as a bevy of gifted players came off the board.Green Bay’s wide receiver group consists of Pro Bowler Davante Adams and a number of unproven players. But Green Bay ignored that position altogether on draft weekend.
