This startup wants to identify water problems before they become crises: WorldWaterDay
Growing up in a village in India with access to water limited to just one hour a day, Meena Sankaran learned a valuable lesson on the importance of a clean supply.
The quality of the water supply is not just a problem for the developing world. Many developed countries, including the U.S., are facing major challenges from aging infrastructure, as the problems in Flint, Mich., and in Alabama’s Lawrence County illustrate. “We can no longer ignore America’s water problem; our infrastructure needs a massive overhaul,” Sankaran said.Because it’s easier to filter water than to monitor it, there’s a huge gap in the monitoring and management space, she discovered.
“Agricultural companies have a huge dependence on ground water, and food safety is becoming a massive issue. So we are testing for arsenic in groundwater,” said Sankaran.
