WASHINGTON—President Trump on Monday pardoned former U.S. Army First Lt. Michael Behenna, a decision the White House said was based on the support of senior military leaders for a soldier who claimed he killed a suspected Iraqi terrorist in self-defense.
Mr. Behenna was convicted in 2009 of unpremeditated murder in a combat zone and sentenced to 25 years in prison. The sentence was later reduced to 15 years, and he was released on parole in 2014. In a statement late Monday, the White House said Mr. Behenna, 35, was “entirely...
