They are two of the most powerful men in Washington. And they've been at each other's throats for decades. CNN's Jason Carroll reports on the history behind President Trump and Jerry Nadler's public and very personal feud.

Decades ago, a businessman and a state assemblyman had a public and personal feud over New York real estate. It's 2019, and they're still fighting, but now, one is President of the United States and the other is chairman of the House committee that has the power to unravel his presidency.

The beef was revived Tuesday in a series of tweets from President Donald Trump following a report in The Washington Post outlining his long-antagonistic relationship with House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, the one lawmaker with the unique qualification of having already fought Trump for years.

Rep. Nadler: Congress has been shielding Trump 01:20Even after he became a congressman in 1992, Nadler was a key opponent of the project, and the years-long dispute was well-documented in local publications at the time as it faced numerous zoning and tax obstacles. The New York Times characterized Nadler as"among the project's strongest foes" and at one point, he successfully cut off federal funds that would have allowed the development to proceed.
