Trump says George Washington should have put his name on Mount Vernon: report
Politico reports that when Trump took a tour of the Virginia estate with French President Emmanuel Macron last April, he told Macron that if George Washington “was smart, he would’ve put his name on it.”
A Times story on the relationship between Trump and acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney contains an anecdote involving Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, an Alabama Republican. During the negotiations amid a government shutdown earlier this year, Shelby reportedly complained about Mulvaney’s penchant for undoing weeks of bipartisan work with a comment to Trump in the Oval Office.
Senate Republicans are warning the White House that Herman Cain will face one of the most difficult confirmation fights of Trump’s presidency and are making a behind-the-scenes play to get the president to back off his pick of the former pizza executive for a seat on the Federal Reserve, Politico reports.
