WASHINGTON - The pace of hiring sped up in March as the U.S. economy added 196,000 jobs, rebounding from a paltry gain in the prior month. The increase in new jobs beat the 172,000 MarketWatch forecast. The jobless rate was unchanged at 3.8%. The average wage paid to American workers rose 4 cents, or 0.1%, to $27.70 an hour. The 12-month rate of hourly wage gains slipped to 3.2% from 3.4%. Hours worked each week rose 0.1 hour in March to 34.5.
