U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May sent a letter to leaders of the European Union on Wednesday, formally requesting a short delay to Brexit.
div > div.group > p:first-child"> The request, which comes 1,000 days after the U.K. narrowly voted to leave the bloc, seeks to put Britain's departure on hold until June 30.
Any delay would need to be agreed by all 27 EU member states, with May set to travel to Brussels on Thursday to discuss the options with her counterparts. Speaking to LBC Radio on Wednesday morning, Angela Leadsom, the leader of the House of Commons, said May would need to put a long delay to Brexit to Parliament if that is what the EU offer in talks this week.
