YouTube is worth $140 billion and Alphabet should spin it off, this analyst writes
YouTube is worth $140 billion by itself, according to a bullish Alphabet analyst—and the company should spin it off.
To get there, Martin—whose $1,350 price target is just above FactSet’s current average of near $1,342—used a combination of methods that attempt to value YouTube’s advertising and subscription businesses. The latter include over-the-top streaming video, ad-free viewing, and music.“We believe that YouTube loses money, and therefore an enterprise value-to-sales valuation multiple is the appropriate valuation metric,” Martin wrote.
Shares of Alphabet, up a bit more than 5% over the last 12 months, are ahead more than 10% in 2019, a bit behind the S&P 500.
